A Cat with no hat

I started designing a Cat or Kitty. I have the whole doll pictured in my mind, now to just bring it out into cloth!

I have to make the pattern and drawn it on unbleached muslin material and am cutting it out to sew. I honestly made this pattern for a bunny but instead I changed the ears on this pattern to make a cat.

New pattern that I have gluded onto my card stock to save.

Pattern on my unbleached muslin and started to cut it to sew.

I am not sure what color I am going to make my cat.

Below is the material I am using for the outfit.

I have the Cat doll put together and I have just drawn the face so that I know where to paint and that is the next step - painting the doll and getting her face on.

Made the changes to my pattern head and very happy with it. I used the old head and made the adjustment. So I stuffed it and actually drew out the lines so that I can paint it and here is the picture of her so far. Once she is painted I'll post a new picture of her before I put on her dress. I make these dolls so that the clothes do not come off so I'll make sure I post it first.

I am painting her in Yellow Ochre and will have white stripes on her. I have her legs painted light pink and have white poke-a-dots on them with little black shoes. I think this will look nice with her green dress with pink to dark leaves and yellow wheat stems.

I now have her painted but there are a couple of places I need to touch up on yet, but this is so far, waiting for her to dry. Starting on her dress in the mean time.

I was browsing Pinteress for some inspiration for a dress for my cat and I loved the way dress came up in the front, so I worked on making it as closely as I could.

I fell in love with this dress which I found on Pintrest!

Maybe I should purchase this pattern it's actually a very cute doll. I like all the little details this outfit has on it. I'll see how it all turns out. I wonder if that cone w/bird is in the pattern too?

I have been trying to make her dress out of this material. It is not working out I am so, so sad! It is just raveling to "beat the band" so they call it. Worst of all I love this material and I purchased a couple of other colors of this same kind, I have the sleeves to do and bloomers I just don't think I can finish it and it still looks real nice. I am going to see how well I can do and if it turns out.I am not sure what to do with it now. Sometimes you just hit a snag while working on them, it's all in the process I guess.

She is finished! She is in her green satin dress with matching bloomers. She has cute pink w/white poke-a-dot legs and she has matching ruffled pink w/white poke-a-dot collar. Hand painted with acrylics.  I didn't get the lace on like in the picture and I also didn't make bloomers the same and this was my choice.

I really liked how she turned out and I left the hat off which I had planned!

Making dolls

I have been working for the last few days on a new doll. She doesn't have a pattern so I have to improvise and make it myself.  I have a few patterns of dolls from various Doll makers over the years and when I use them or use their design for inspiritation I always give them credit. Most of my dolls, I have to make my own patterns. That isn't the hardest part but the clothes are for me. I am not that great of a clothes designer..LOL!

Dolls that have Inspired Me

Hello, I thought that I would give you a glimmer of what dolls have inspired me to change my style of doll and these are dolls that I have made in the past!

These are from the oldest to the newest!  Yes I have two favorites which are the Snow Lady and my Mr Frog.

Little Bunny Gal

Here is a new creation that I am working on and I thought that you may like to see a small process that I use to create my dolls.

First of all I take what I have in my head and make a simple sketch of it so that I can make a pattern for it. Many of my dolls, are a combination of patterns that I already have made and I make small changes to get the desired results.

These are the colors that I chose for my new doll.

I have the head, legs, and her arms stuffed and attached to her. I have made her bottom in a "box" to help her sit.  The other colors are for her outfit which will be upcoming.

Here is what she now looks like

She is all dressed up and she became a little Bunny! She is a total of 21 inches from the bottom of her shoes to the tip of her ears!

Little gal sold right away!

Welcome to Leaping Frog Crafts

Hi! I'm Ranae and I make dolls, actually cloth dolls. Over the years I have made many different types of them, from Raggedy, Art and even a few Primitive styles.  I have been making cloth dolls since 2007 and have been selling them.

In the last couple of years I have retired and I have moved into a wonderful new home out on a lake and totally love the area.

As time has gone on I have fallen in love with a style of Primitive doll. As you can see below this type of doll. I have made these dolls more so many years ago and I keep going back to making them. So now that is what I am doing.

I specialize in custom orders. Below is what I made before that was a total inspiration for me and now I have just upped the game with fancier materials and on the other side scary for the others.

One of my dolls that inspired me!

I'm a Flowering Frog

Making a new Frog at this time.  This is not my pattern it is from Cindy Conrad and is called Franklin Frog. It is the only one I purchas...
